PAR 4 - White 353 yds, Yellow 360 yds, Red 297 yds
This hole has been improved over the years with the introduction of a pond and an additional bunker just beyond the first bunker on the right of the fairway. Pampas grass has been planted on the left of the fairway which can be a problem, necessitating care with your tee shot. The white teeing area is small and when playing off the back of this tee your back swing can be inhibited. The big decision on this hole is whether to shoot for the green with the second shot, which means carrying the pond.
Obviously from a poor drive this is out of the question, so you have no option other than to lay up, but, with a decent drive it's well worth taking it on.
Three bunkers guard the green, one left, two right and to the right of the green, we have a considerable amount of damage done by our hidden furry friends, the moles and this can cause the occasional unfriendly lie.
The green itself is quite good, and in general the pin is not difficult to play to, the most difficult being when it's situated behind the right hand bunker. Two notes of caution regarding this hole, firstly, when hitting into the green take care to watch for players teeing off the seventeenth hole, secondly, when teeing off at the seventeenth watch-out for the wayward shot coming in from the fourth fairway.
On a point of golf etiquette, players teeing off from the seventeenth should allow players putting on the fourth green to putt before the tee shots are played.
