PAR 5/4 - White 364 yds, Yellow 338 yds, Red 297 yds
The ninth hole is perhaps the signature hole of Cooden. From the tee, depending on the wind, several options are available.
With a strong south-westerly, a good drive is necessary and a driver may be the only chance of reaching the green in two shots. Even with a driver, clearing the second ditch can be difficult especially if you happen to cut the ball. However, even if you hit a good drive it may still be necessary to hit a long iron or a wood to find the green in two.
With a northerly wind, be aware of the pond to the left of the bunkers and the bunkers themselves, for both are drivable with a strong following wind. These are the two largest bunkers on the course, both with a sheer face, making it difficult to hit a bunker shot long enough to reach the green.
The green itself slopes down towards the bunkers, so it's wise to take one club extra to ensure reaching and holding the green; a short ball will probably roll back down towards the bunkers or across the slope into the right hand greenside bunker.
This green has a bunker both left and right and the right one has a fairly severe lip. The slope tends to push the ball into this trap, the priority then is to get the ball up and out without trying to be too delicate. The green itself is exposed to the wind and tends to harden making it most challenging especially so with its slope.
