PAR 3 - White 160 yds, Yellow 154 yds, Red 150 yds
The dreaded third: Stroke 18. The third hole, the first of five par threes. When you walk through the pathway and face the hole you will instantly know how difficult it is going to be. With a strong prevailing south-westerly wind, a 2/3 iron or the equivalent in woods, is what most players require. However, if it's an Easterly wind, something like a 7 iron or even less will do the business. It's well worth walking forward to the edge of the tee to judge the full strength of the wind on this hole as the tee itself is sheltered slightly.
This hole is protected by four bunkers, two clearly seen from the tee and two hidden behind the two front visible ones. To the right runs the coal stream which flows around the perimeter of the course and is out of bounds. To the left and beyond the green is a ditch (water hazard), however this ditch does not run all the way across. It's worth taking a provisional if in doubt as to whether your ball has found the ditch or not. Pampas grass has been planted to the left of the green in the rough which can aid in spotting the position of a wayward shot on the left.
The green itself is much improved as a result of the recent work to its drainage and is currently one of our better greens.
